As a writer on the autism spectrum, it's important to me to help other people on the spectrum. This includes other adults, as well as kids with autism, by helping their parents. Since my son's diagnosis at the end of 2000, I have been actively involved in helping other parents learn what worked for me. I didn't know at the time that my unique ability to understand autism, and help other parents, is because I am also on the spectrum! People who do not have autism do not understand that the world can be a scary place for a person who has autism. Especially without appropriate social, community and occupational support systems. It has been almost 9 years since my son's diagnosis, and I have been involved with autism and the autism community ever since. My mission is to help to make the world a ''safer place'' for people on the spectrum, by increasing acceptance through more a more accurate understanding of autism. ''Autism. Understand it.''
